Description:
This course counts toward the following majors: Operations. As firms seek to improve their global competitive positioning, they must consider a variety of factors in determining the location and capacity of their productive facilities. These factors include proximity to relatively cheap inputs, the benefit of locating near major markets and the building of strategic alliances to acquire technological and competitive knowledge. We examine the role played by the operations function in making the strategic decision of where to locate facilities and explore how to coordinate worldwide operations to optimize performance. The impact of trade regulation and foreign exchange risk also is considered.
